Domaine Julien Cecillon, Saint-Joseph Rouge Babylone 2021

Although Cecillon is a fairly new project, the family has been making wine for eleven generations in Tournon. Julien Cecillon’s maternal family includes iconic winemakers such as his cousin, Bernard Faurie, and uncle Jean-Louis Grippat. He met his wife Nancy Kerschen, originally from Houston, Texas, in California, and in 2010 they decided to move back to Tournon and make wine.

Tournon is one of the six original villages that make up the historic core of Saint Joseph. The parcels here are unique, with some of the vines being a century old. 50% whole cluster, fermentation in stainless steel 17 months’ élevage in barrel.

We have admired the wines from this domaine for some time and were fortunate to introduce the range from Cecillon to those who attended La Tablée last year. Here is another opportunity to taste Julian’s superb expression of Syrah.

Domaine de Beaurenard, Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020
Domaine de Beaurenard has been a family-run estate for eight generations. The Coulon family has farmed this historic vineyard named Bois Renard since they purchased it in 1695, and have committed to farming responsibly with organic and biodynamically farmed vineyards.

Victor Coulon, the current generation in charge at the estate, is producing an approachable and fresh style of wine from this region.

Their Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a co-fermented blend of the 13 permitted varieties, predominantly Grenache. The winery is known for long fermentations of over 30 days, with gentle extractions occurring under temperature-regulated conditions and hand-punchdowns. This is quintessential Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the sense that it is a reflection of the diversity of grapes and soil types from this region.
