Pierre-Jean Villa
Saint-Joseph, Northern Rhône
Represented by Pierre-Jean Villa
In the Villa family, in Spain or in France, people have always worked the land. Pierre-Jean has never inherited any vines, but he has harvested, visited cellars, tasted wines, and traveled the roads of the vineyards with his winegrower friends. 1992: it's the big jump for Burgundy and its prestigious domains, Mommessin, Clos de Tart... Pierre-Jean Villa follows the wine, from production to marketing. In 2003, Pierre-Jean Villa returned to his childhood lands and joins the trio of Vins de Vienne. He was the guardian of the temple until 2009. 2009: Pierre-Jean Villa creates his own domain in the heart of the Northern Rhône and begins his new life as a 100% independent winemaker. In 2020: the last year before the organic certification, the estate is one of the most important addresses of the Northern Rhône with 17 hectares of major vintages on the right and left banks of the Rhône: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage and on the hillsides of Seyssuel north of Vienne.
A great wine is born exclusively from a respected land and fruit. An obviousness and a work ethic for Pierre-Jean Villa. He never gives up. In the vineyard, his only logic is to safeguard the life of the soil in order to produce wines that are faithful to their terroir. In the cellar, he accompanies the grapes with low interventionist vinifications: indigenous yeasts, respect of the lunar calendar for the racking and bottling. In the end, the wine must express the right and delicate balance between the typicity of the terroir and the ethics of the winemaker.
